A major reshuffle has hit the Ghana Police Service following the approval of new promotions and transfers by President John Dramani Mahama, acting on the recommendation of the Police Council.

The changes, which affect several top officers across various ranks, are part of what officials describe as a strategic realignment to strengthen command efficiency and improve operational effectiveness nationwide.

According to multiple Police Wireless Messages intercepted from the Ghana Police Service headquarters in Accra, President Mahama has approved the promotion of several senior officers, including four Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCOPs) who have now ascended to the prestigious rank of Commissioner of Police (COP).

The officers promoted to the rank of COP are Emmanuel Teye-Cudjoe, former Ashanti regional commander; Arhin Kwasi Annor, Accra regional Commander; Frederick Kofi Blagodzi, and DCOP Emmanuel Twumasi-Ankrah, reflecting a new era of leadership within the service’s upper echelon.

Additionally, another batch of senior officers at the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) level has been elevated to the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP), effective September 1, 2025.

The list includes ACP Alex Kwame, ACP Francis, ACP John Ferguson Dzineku, ACP Theodor Hlormenu, ACP Dr. Frank Kwashie Hukporti, ACP Joseph Hammond Nyaa, ACP Adamu Seidu, ACP (Rev.) Nana Adane Ameyaw Nyamekye, ACP Grace Akrofi-Ansah, and ACP Al-Meyaw Abass Kwarasey.

The promotions, which were officially communicated through the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno, were accompanied by an extensive reshuffle of senior commanders across the country.

The postings, approved upon the recommendation of the Police Transfer Board, are to take immediate effect.

Under the new postings, COP Emmanuel Teye-Cudjoe, who previously served as the Regional Commander for Ashanti, has been reassigned to the Directorate-General of Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB).

He is succeeded in the Ashanti Region by DCOP Arthur Osei Akoto, who moves from the Western Region to take up the role.

Meanwhile, DCOP Joseph O. Bempah from National Headquarters has been appointed as the new Eastern Regional Commander.

Other transfers include DCOP Oduro Amaning, who has been shipped from Bono East region to the National Headquarters, and DCOP Frank Abrokwah, who has been reassigned to head the Western Regional Command.

Several Assistant Commissioners, including ACP Samuel Okunor and ACP Amos K. Yelisong, have also been affected by the nationwide reshuffle.

The move follows months of internal reviews and discussions within the Police Council aimed at restructuring leadership roles to enhance accountability and discipline across regional commands.
