Esaaba Eunice Essien, a well-known student leader and advocate for youth empowerment, has officially declared her intention to contest for the presidency of the Ghana Union of Professional Students (GUPS) in the upcoming 2025 elections.

Her campaign, themed “A New Voice, A New Vision”, seeks to usher in a new era of inclusive, transparent, and visionary leadership within the Union.

Esaaba, who has earned recognition for her active engagement in student welfare and leadership initiatives, announced her ambition under the slogan “Students Empowered, Future Ignited.” Her message emphasizes empowerment, innovation, and unity among all professional student bodies in Ghana.

She aims to build a more responsive and dynamic GUPS that serves as a strong voice for professional students across tertiary institutions nationwide.

According to her campaign communication, Esaaba’s leadership philosophy is built on three fundamental pillars — integrity, vision, and service.

She believes these values are crucial to revamping GUPS into a student-centered institution that not only advocates for members’ interests but also drives professional development and networking opportunities across disciplines.

The Ghana Union of Professional Students (GUPS), established to represent the collective interests of students pursuing professional courses in Ghana, has over the years played a crucial role in promoting academic excellence, advocacy, and welfare among its members.

However, recent concerns about the Union’s effectiveness and inclusiveness have sparked calls for reform and stronger leadership — a gap Esaaba’s campaign promises to fill.

Esaaba Essien’s campaign team, operating under the banner “Esaaba for GUPS ’25”, has been rallying support across various campuses and professional student associations.

Her approach focuses on participatory leadership, ensuring that student voices from all backgrounds are heard and valued.

In her vision statement, she emphasized the importance of accountability and collaboration, noting that the next GUPS administration must build stronger partnerships with government institutions, the private sector, and international bodies to advance student interests.
