NPP claps back at Frimpong-Boateng over ‘incompetence’ tag

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is once again grappling with internal turbulence—this time triggered by a fiery article authored by former Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovations, Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng.

His publication, heavily circulated on social media, accuses the current party leadership of incompetence, manipulation, and a deliberate erosion of democratic processes ahead of the January 2026 presidential primaries.

But in a swift and stinging rebuttal, the NPP’s National Organizer, Henry Nana Boakye, known as Nana B, dismantled what he describes as “falsehoods, distortions, and an astonishing misrepresentation” by the celebrated cardiac surgeon.

According to Nana B, the professor’s commentary is not only misleading but ironically ignores his own record—one the party believes contributed significantly to its 2024 electoral defeat.

A Flashback

In the immediate aftermath of the NPP’s painful 2024 electoral defeat, the party, following long-established tradition, empaneled a post-election review committee chaired by former Speaker of Parliament, Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye.

The committee’s mandate was clear: investigate the party’s performance, identify mistakes, and recommend urgent reforms.

Contrary to Prof. Frimpong-Boateng’s assertion that no report exists, the Oquaye Committee did complete its work. Its findings, as always, were submitted to the National Council—though not publicly released in full due to their sensitive strategic value.

However, portions deemed suitable for public consumption were shared by the General Secretary during the nationwide “Thank You Tour.”

The committee’s recommendations even triggered significant constitutional amendments, later adopted at the National Delegates Conference at the University of Ghana Stadium.

It is against this backdrop that Nana B describes Prof. Frimpong-Boateng’s claim of “no documentation” as “utterly false and deliberately deceptive.”

The ‘Top-Down Elections’ Narrative: Prof Misfires Again?

The professor’s second claim—that the party has abandoned its bottom-to-top tradition by scheduling presidential primaries before executive elections—was also dismissed as fundamentally flawed.

According to Nana B, the NPP Constitution is clear: only the National Council can determine the date for presidential primaries, not the National Executives. And the body did exactly that when it fixed January 31, 2026 for the flagbearer contest.

Furthermore, the position of presidential candidate is not even part of the party’s organizational hierarchy. It stands alone, separate from constituency, regional, or national executive structures, making the professor’s “top-down” analogy structurally impossible.

Party insiders say the early date was driven by overwhelming recommendations from the Frank Davies-led Constitution Amendment Committee, which received near-unanimous grassroots calls for early primaries to prevent prolonged factionalism.

Allegation of Rigging

Perhaps the most sensational accusation by the professor is that the National Executives are scheming to rig the 2026 flagbearer election for a preferred candidate.

Nana B described this claim as “outrageously false,” insisting that the processes are in the hands of independent committees:

1. Presidential Vetting Committee chaired by Dr. Kwame Addo-Kufuor

2. Presidential Elections Committee chaired by Joe Osei-Owusu

An additional Intra-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) holds constant dialogue with all aspirants to ensure transparency—yet another reason the NPP finds the rigging allegation “unfounded and mischievous.”

More embarrassingly, Nana B pointed out that the NPP has no body called the “National Executive Council,” despite Prof. Frimpong-Boateng repeatedly referencing it.

The Party Strikes Back

In a parting blow laced with unmistakable irritation, Nana B suggested that if anyone’s actions hurt the NPP ahead of the 2024 elections, Prof. Frimpong-Boateng’s name would rank high.

According to him, no party member provided the opposition NDC with more damaging campaign ammunition than the professor—particularly on the controversial Galamsey saga, which exploded under his leadership as Chairman of the Inter-Ministerial Committee Against Illegal Mining (IMCIM).

His infamous allegation of “missing excavators,” later proven unsubstantiated, became one of the NDC’s most potent anti-government weapons.

While the party leadership urges Prof. Frimpong-Boateng to “refrain from further inflammatory commentary,” the broader political environment suggests the storm is far from over.
