A Form Three student at Kumasi Islamic Senior High School, referred to as Abass and currently acting as the Boys’ Prefect, has passed away after falling from the top floor of the school’s administration block on Tuesday, November 18, 2025.

He was rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, where medical personnel confirmed that he had died upon arrival. Witnesses report that students and staff who witnessed the incident quickly alerted others, and school officials acted promptly to notify the family and the regional education office.

Officers arrived at the location to conduct a preliminary investigation while the school ensured the area was secured until further inquiries could take place.

Classmates and family members characterised Abass as a well-liked student who held leadership roles. Some people close to him mentioned that he had previously made casual comments that raised concerns, but school officials stated they had no clear signs of any immediate threat.

The police are still investigating the circumstances of the fall, and officials have not yet verified if it was due to foul play or self-harm.

The school community, parents, and local leaders have shown surprise and sadness, and plans are being made for the family to conduct burial rites in accordance with their religious beliefs.

Education authorities have indicated they will support counselling for students and staff affected by the tragedy as investigations continue.
