On December 5th in the USA, Ghana will discover its opponents for the 2026 FIFA World Cup to be played in North Africa.

After an inspiring qualification that helped the Black Stars qualify, they started preparations with two defeats in Asia against Japan and South Korea.

Many Ghanaians bemoaned the quality that the team showed in the absence of perennial starters like Kudus, Partey, Djiku, Ayew and Inaki,

Calls for quality players alone for the 2026 FIFA World Cup have been the main topic in the media, with the sports minister, Kofi Adams, supporting it.

“Good and great players should not be left out anywhere they find themselves, whether they are local or foreign,” Kofi Adams said.

“We are not going for this World Cup just to participate and come home. That’s why we must assemble our best,” he added.

“If all we do is allow our best local players to leave at the first opportunity, then we cannot build a strong local base, and we must be intentional about keeping good and skilful players here too.”

The minister declared the government’s decision to support the Ghana Premier League as well.

“We will support all sports, not only football. But football is really expensive and brings a lot of pressure on every minister, so we will do our best to improve the local league so we can produce players who will excel,” Mr Adams added.

The government, at the beginning of the new season, supported all clubs with 1 million cedis each and has promised to do more to help raise the standard of the GPL.
