The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has moved swiftly to restore public confidence in its operations after a viral video circulating on social media captured a disturbing confrontation between some officers on duty and a senior commander.

The incident, which occurred on November 25, 2025, at the Offinso In-land Checkpoint in the Ashanti Region, has led to the interdiction of six officers over what authorities describe as “gross misconduct and unacceptable behaviour.”

According to an official statement issued by the Service, the confrontation began when a man who identified himself as a Deputy Commissioner of Immigration (DCOI) confronted officers while travelling as a passenger on a commercial vehicle.

The video, which has sparked public criticism, captured the officers verbally assaulting the senior officer, displaying open disrespect, and violating basic norms of civility expected within the security services.

The GIS condemned the conduct of its personnel, stressing that the behaviour fell far below the ethical standards and disciplinary expectations under the Ghana Immigration Service Code of Conduct.

The incident has been widely viewed as an embarrassment to the Service, which has been working to strengthen professionalism and accountability across its ranks.

The interdiction of the six officers marks the beginning of formal disciplinary proceedings.

The Comptroller-General of Immigration, in the statement, emphasised that the Service upholds integrity, respect for authority, and professionalism as non-negotiable values.

He further assured the public that any officer who breaches these standards would be met with “swift and decisive action.”

The Service has also initiated a full investigation in accordance with the Ghana Immigration Service Regulations, 2016 (L.I. 2245). Appropriate sanctions are expected to follow based on the findings of the ongoing probe.

While apologising to the public for the incident, the GIS reaffirmed its commitment to high standards of discipline and assured citizens that reforms and strict enforcement mechanisms remain in place to prevent future occurrences.

The Service added that further updates will be communicated once the investigation concludes.
