In a move aimed at strengthening the international competitiveness of Ghanaian nurses and midwives, the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) has entered into a new strategic partnership with TruMerit, formerly known as CGFNS International.

The agreement is expected to broaden access to global professional opportunities while enhancing credential recognition for GRNMA members seeking career advancement beyond Ghana’s borders.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was formally signed at the GRNMA National Headquarters at Shiashie in Accra during a ceremony attended by key stakeholders from both institutions.

Present at the event were GRNMA President, Perpetual Ofori-Ampofo, members of the Association’s National Executive Committee, and the President of TruMerit, Dr. Peter Preziosi.

The partnership builds on years of advocacy by GRNMA to ensure that Ghanaian nurses and midwives are not disadvantaged in the increasingly globalised health workforce.

Historically, many Ghanaian health professionals seeking to work abroad have faced challenges related to credential verification, licensing requirements, and recognition of qualifications. TruMerit, an internationally recognised organisation in health workforce credentialing, is expected to address these barriers through structured verification and certification services.

Under the terms of the MoU, GRNMA members will gain direct access to TruMerit’s credential evaluation systems, which support licensing and professional practice in the United States and other international destinations.

The agreement also provides pathways for career development, ethical recruitment, and professional mobility, while ensuring that members meet global standards of nursing and midwifery practice.

GRNMA described the collaboration as a landmark achievement, noting that it is the first such partnership between TruMerit and a nursing and midwifery body in the West African sub-region.

The Association said the agreement reinforces its long-standing mandate to protect the welfare, rights, and professional interests of nurses and midwives, while positioning them to compete effectively on the global stage.

During the ceremony, members of the Association were given the opportunity to engage the leadership of both organisations.

Participants joined both physically and virtually, raising concerns and offering feedback on how the partnership should be implemented to ensure transparency, affordability, and equal access for all members.

GRNMA leadership assured members that their concerns would inform the rollout of the agreement, adding that the Association remains committed to balancing international mobility with the need to sustain the local health workforce.

The new MoU, they said, represents not just an opportunity for individual career growth, but a strategic step towards elevating the global profile of Ghanaian nursing and midwifery practice.
