Professor Frimpong Boateng launched a huge criticism of the current state of the National Patriotic Party in an interview on Channel One TV.

The respected scientist and politician, who once served as the Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, spoke with words that were full of disappointment and uncertainty when talking about his beloved NPP.

“The present NPP is not NPP. It is fake. From what I see now, this is not the NPP I used to know,” Prof. Frimpong-Boateng said. The NPP under former president J. A Kufuor’s tenure was extremely attractive and sellable compared to today, where many Ghanaians are disappointed with how the party has run the country.

“Not the fake one. The real one is there. It is a virtual thing. The members are in the background,” Prof. continued. The former minister revealed that the genuine and qualified people who can manage the party well are sidelined, while those who are incompetent are in front.

“Look at how they elected their last flagbearer—twisting people’s arms, bribing delegates and intimidating others to get a flagbearer. This is the beginning of corruption, and it should not be allowed in any serious institution or political party,” he continued.

The NPP’s flagbearer position has led to all forms of unwanted tactics being employed by the contestants and their entourage in their quest to win the seat. He accused them of laying the foundation for corruption because they pay bribes to delegates to bring them to power, stressing the ripple effects that damage the party.

He praised Dr Bawumia for being a nice person, but revealed that being nice alone cannot help Ghana reach the promised land.

“Bawumia is a very nice person, but being nice alone is not enough to lead Nkrumah’s Ghana.”

The NPP flagbearer elections is less than three weeks away, with Alhaji Bawumia, Kennedy Agyapong, Yaw Adutwum, Bryan Acheampong and Kwabena Agyapong set to fight for the vacant hot seat.
