President John Dramani Mahama has appointed respected economist Mr. Kwame Pianim and prominent private-sector leader Mr. Ishmael Yamson to serve on the newly constituted Presidential Advisory Group on the Economy (PAGE), a high-level body established to guide Ghana’s economic recovery and long-term growth agenda.

The appointments were announced in a statement issued by Presidency Communications on Thursday, January 15, 2026, as part of the President’s strategy to strengthen macroeconomic stability, fiscal sustainability and inclusive growth under the 24-Hour Economy and Accelerated Export Development Programme.

Mr. Ishmael Yamson, a renowned private sector leader and former member of PAGE, is expected to bring his deep experience in corporate governance, business development and investment mobilisation to the advisory group.

His role will focus on ensuring that government policies are aligned with private sector growth, job creation and enterprise expansion.

Also appointed is Mr. Kwame Pianim, an economist and private sector leader who previously served on PAGE.

Widely regarded for his expertise in economic policy, fiscal discipline and industrial development, Mr. Pianim is expected to play a key role in shaping Ghana’s structural transformation and export-led growth strategy.

Under the terms of reference, the Presidential Advisory Group on the Economy will provide the President with independent, non-partisan advice on macroeconomic management, fiscal consolidation, debt sustainability and the alignment of fiscal and monetary policies. The group will also advise on industrial competitiveness, private-sector expansion and investment attraction.

The advisory body will further support the design and implementation of flagship government initiatives, including the 24-Hour Economy, and conduct periodic reviews of Ghana’s economic performance, recommending policy adjustments where necessary.

PAGE will report directly to the President and submit advisory memoranda and strategic briefs as required.

The inclusion of both Pianim and Yamson signals President Mahama’s intention to blend economic expertise with private sector leadership in steering Ghana through its current economic challenges and positioning the country for sustainable, job-rich growth.
