Some traditional leaders in the Bono Region have appealed to the government to establish a cashew board to address persistent price fluctuations in the sector and restore confidence among farmers.

The call was made during various engagements held as part of the “Thank You” tour by the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah. The chiefs said a dedicated regulatory body for the cashew industry would help resolve key challenges limiting the sector’s growth.

Nana Seidu Sule Zingo II, Chief of Namasa in the Tain Constituency, urged the government to set up a cashew board to regulate and stabilise prices while ensuring other benefits for farmers. He noted that the absence of a proper regulatory framework had resulted in frequent price volatility, leading to recurring losses for cashew producers.

Similarly, Nana Nketiah Bosopremre Kankamadu III, Chief of Miramano in the Jaman South Constituency, said unstable pricing in the cashew market was having a severe impact on farmers’ livelihoods. He explained that cashew is the main cash crop in the area, making price stability crucial to the economic survival of local farmers.

Nana Tutu Baffour II, Chief of Jinijini in the Berekum West Constituency, also stressed the urgent need to resolve pricing challenges, noting that a well-regulated cashew sector could deliver significant socio-economic benefits to communities in the region.

In response, Mr. Asiedu Nketiah assured the chiefs that measures were being considered to stabilise cashew prices and ensure farmers receive fair value for their produce. He pledged that their concerns would be addressed, adding that despite existing challenges, the government remains committed to fulfilling its promises and delivering results for Ghanaians within its four-year mandate.
