The Court of Appeal has instructed the Inspector General of Police to promptly promote forty (40) Police Chief Inspectors to their correct ranks.

A panel of three judges at the court in Kumasi accepted an appeal submitted by the officers involved, with Chief Inspector Christopher Okpattah as the lead.

The appeal contested a prior ruling by the Kumasi High Court, which had rejected their case and stated that a Chief Inspector could not receive automatic promotion solely based on obtaining higher academic qualifications.

On Wednesday, the Court of Appeal made a unanimous ruling stating that excluding the officers from the promotion process, while others were promoted, was an unjust action against them.

The court instructed the police department to promote the officers within six months and to provide them with all benefits associated with those promotions.
