The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has paid a compassionate visit to the mother of the late Defence Minister, Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, in the Eastern Region as part of his official tour of the area.

The visit, which took place on Thursday, January 29, came months after the burial of the former minister and was aimed at offering continued comfort and solidarity to the grieving family.

During the emotional encounter, Mr. Iddrisu shared words of encouragement and reassurance with the bereaved mother, urging her to remain strong in faith.

“God will see you through, and He will give you strength,” he said, as he warmly embraced her.

Deeply moved by the gesture, Dr. Omane Boamah’s mother expressed heartfelt appreciation to the minister and all those who have stood by the family since her son’s passing.

“I thank you all for your support,” she said, acknowledging the kindness and compassion shown during the painful period.

Dr. Omane Boamah tragically lost his life on August 6, 2025, while on official duty. He was among eight people who perished in a Ghana Armed Forces Z-9 helicopter crash in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region.

The aircraft had been travelling from Accra to Obuasi for an anti-illegal mining operation when the fatal accident occurred.

Also killed in the crash were then Minister of Environment, Science and Technology, Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed; Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, Muniru Mohammed Limuna; NDC Vice-Chairman, Samuel Sarpong; former parliamentary candidate Samuel Aboagye; Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala; Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu; and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
