Group C is so tight after matchday four of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. Rwanda, South Africa and Benin all have seven points and are separated by goal difference. Lesotho is in 4th position having won 5 points while Nigeria surprisingly is in 5th position with just 3 points from a possible 12. Zimbabwe is bottom of the group with just two points.

South Africa needed to beat Zimbabwe on Tuesday afternoon to get closer to the top of the table.

At the Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein, South Africa was so dominant against Zimbabwe to the extent that they created 25 goal attempts with 7 on targets compared to 7 goal attempts with four for Zimbabwe.

Stellenbosch FC’s forward Iqraam Reyners got Bafana Bafana to a good start by scoring within the first minute of the game.

Tawanda Chiwera levelled the scores a minute later to the surprise of everyone. The first two minutes of the games was shocking as two goals were scored by the two teams.

The first half ended 1-1 with South Africa knowing that they had to win at all costs.

Mamelodi Sundowns’ defender Thapelo Morena scored twice in the second half to ensure the three points for Hugo Broos and his men.

The win has helped Bafana Bafana open four points between Nigeria who they expect to give them a huge challenge.

South Africa will host Lesotho and travel to Benin in matchday 5 and 6 respectively in 2025.
