Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, a former Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), has dismissed reports suggesting that he was arrested or detained by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) over allegations of the sale of government-sponsored foreign scholarships.

In a statement issued on February 5, 2026, Mr. Kofi Nkansah described the claims as false and misleading, insisting that he was never “picked up” by the NIB as widely circulated on social media.

The clarification follows a Facebook publication by one Dzifa Gunu, which alleged that Mr. Nkansah had been arrested by the NIB after refusing to honour an invitation from the intelligence agency to substantiate claims about the sale of overseas scholarships.

According to Kofi Nkansah, the publication distorted the facts and wrongly portrayed a routine investigative engagement as an arrest.

Providing context to the unfolding matter, Mr. Nkansah explained that on February 3, 2026, the Secretary to the President, Callistus Mahama, formally wrote to the Director-General of the NIB, directing the Bureau to investigate allegations purportedly made by him during a discussion on Sompa FM 106.5.

In that radio interview, Mr. Nkansah alleged that some individuals had paid significant sums of money—reportedly as much as GH¢100,000—to secure government-sponsored scholarships to study abroad.

He further claimed that some beneficiaries of the alleged scheme were members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Following the presidential directive, the NIB invited Mr. Nkansah to a meeting scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on February 5, 2026, to assist with the ongoing investigations.

Kofi Nkansah stated that he honoured the invitation voluntarily and reported to the NIB offices in the company of his lawyer, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah Esq., who is also the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South.

He said he fully cooperated with investigators and provided all relevant information to support the probe.

He stressed that at the end of the engagement, he was not charged with any offence, reiterating that his role was purely to assist the NIB with its investigations into the alleged scholarship irregularities.

Mr. Nkansah therefore urged the public and the media to disregard reports suggesting that he was under arrest or in detention, and called for responsible reporting to avoid the spread of misinformation.

Mr. Nkansah’s involvement in the matter has attracted significant public attention due to his political profile and previous roles in government.

He is a member of the New Patriotic Party and served as the Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme, a flagship government initiative aimed at supporting startups through funding, training, and business development services under the Akufo-Addo administration.

Before that, he was the Managing Director of Ghana Digital Centres Limited, where he oversaw the development of a technology park intended to promote ICT innovation and job creation.

Beyond his public sector roles, Mr. Nkansah has been an active political figure within the NPP, having previously contested in internal party primaries, including the 2024 parliamentary race in Asante Akim Central.

The current investigation into alleged scholarship sales, ordered by President John Dramani Mahama, is expected to examine the broader processes surrounding the award of government-sponsored overseas scholarships and determine whether any impropriety occurred.
