The Institute of Community Sustainability (ICS), a non-governmental organisation (NGO), has advised the government to ban the consumption of Cat and Dog meat to protect public health and animal welfare in Ghana.

The NGO has warned that dog and cat meat poses a real danger to the nation, as it carries serious health risks and also destroys the spontaneous friendship between the human race and animals.

The Executive Director of the Institute of Community Sustainability (ICS), Eric Jerry Aidoo, has expressed his worries over Ghanaians’ love for cat and dog meat.

“By treating these animals as meat, we diminish their value as loyal partners in our daily lives and undermine the social fabric of our communities”, Jerry Aidoo said.

He added, “Cats and dogs are our family; they deserve protection, not the slaughterhouse”.

Ghanaians are simply in love with cat and dog meat, and the practice over the years has been increasing.

The calls for laws to protect these animals are in the right direction, but the question is, will Ghanaians obey them?

Cats and dogs are supposed to be part of the community, but they are now considered meat by many Ghanaians.
