English right-back Reece James’ current contract with Chelsea was supposed to end in June 2028.
It sparked rumours of a potential departure to other clubs, but on Friday morning, the talented defender cum midfielder put pen to paper to extend his stay with the London-based club to 2034.
“I am over the moon to have extended my contract – Chelsea means so much to me,” Reece James said.
“I have always said I want my peak years to be here, and I truly believe we have everything it takes to build on our previous successes,” he added.
Chelsea fans were beginning to feel that their captain was going to leave for free in 2028, but he has quashed all the negative thinking about him.
James is well known for struggling with fitness, but when he is fully fit, he is unquestionably one of the best defenders in the game.
The news is expected to send a fresh and wonderful message to the players after being mauled in Paris by Paris giants PSG in the first leg of the round of 16 of the UCL.
