Set-pieces are now a major part of football. The English Premier League has become home to corner kicks, throw-ins and free kicks. Teams now heavily rely on them for goals, with coaches little by little accepting the fact that it is the new norm.

England leads all the major leagues in terms of scoring from set-pieces. The Premier League have teams who have been specializing on corner kicks and throw-ins. “We are in a very physical era of the game in the Premier League and an era where set-pieces, free-kicks, corners and throw-ins are very highly rated,” said Tuchel when expressing his opinion on the set-pieces craze.

He continued, “That’s just the reality of it. It is part of the match in the Premier League, maybe more than in other leagues.

The Three Lions have been training ahead of friendlies against Uruguay and Japan, and as part of preparations ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

When head coach Thomas Tuchel was asked about his plans concerning set-pieces for the World Cup, he said, “It is not the main part of our approach. But it has to be a part of it, especially in knock-out football. We need to come up with a good plan for how to defend and how to attack set-plays and make it an advantage.”

England is in Group L alongside Ghana, Croatia and Panama for the World Cup. They will face New Zealand and Costa Rica in international friendlies in June before the tournament commences across the USA, Canada and Mexico

The Three Lions are optimistic of going all the way for their first trophy since 1966, when they hosted and won the FIFA World Cup.
