Zinedine Zidane’s childhood dream will become reality soon after the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The 53-year-old former Real Madrid manager has long aspired to lead the French national team as head coach since he retired as a player in 2006.

After the end of his second stint as Real Madrid head coach in 2021, the three-time UEFA Champions League-winning manager decided to wait until Didier Deschamps retired from the big role.

The 1998 World Cup-winning captain, Deschamps, has been the head coach of the French national team since replacing Laurent Blanc in 2012.

Having led Les Blues as manager in the 2014, 2018 and 2022 World Cups, the 2026 World Cup will be a record fourth for the 57-year-old former Olympique Marseille and Juventus manager, making him arguably the best French coach of all time.

France won the 2018 World Cup under his guidance and finished as runner-up in the 2022 edition in Qatar.

This is the shoes Zinedine Zidane will fill from July 2026. The Euro 2000 winner will commence his reign with the qualification for the 2028 European Championship to be played across Britain.
