The MHP Arena in Stuttgart witnessed another fantastic Germany against Ghana encounter, with the Europeans recording a hard-fought 2-1 win over the West Africans.

FIFA rates Ghana v Germany in the 2014 World Cup, where the eventual winners of the tournament drew 2-2 against the Africans in a feisty challenge as one of the best games ever in FIFA World Cup history.

Fans expected another competitively gorgeous match, and it did not fail to deliver.

Black Stars, after being smashed into pieces by Austria in Vienna, needed a result because a whole lot was at stake.

Head coach Otto Addo’s job was on the line as many Ghanaians believe the 5-1 defeat against Austria was unacceptable, hence calling for his sacking.

After being under immense pressure for the entire first half, Ghana conceded a penalty after Adjetey handled the ball in the eighteen-yard box. English referee Steve Artwell consulted the VAR and awarded a penalty to the home side.

Kai Havertz stepped up and sent Hearts of Oak’s goalkeeper Benjamin Asare to his right side after the goalkeeper had moved to the left-hand side a bit earlier.

Ghana, unfortunately, ended the first half with a goal down. Germany’s dominance was so clear in the first 45 minutes to the extent that they had 71% ball possession to Ghana’s 29. Germany had 12 shots with three on target compared to Ghana’s one. Germany created four big chances and won four corners. Ghana created three chances and won three corners.

Ghana’s best moment in the second half came in the 70th minute when left back Derrick Kohn of Union Berlin expertly set up Fatwu Issahaku, who calmly slotted the ball to the far corner to restore parity.

The Black Stars looked to have drawn with Germany again, but lost focus, allowing Deniz Undav to score the winner in the 88th minute.

Ghana’s defeat was expected, but the performance compared to Austria’s massacre was okay.
