Road accidents are more prevalent on Ghanaian roads than ever. The most dangerous and deadly accidents on the roads involve the Toyota Voxy, which can be found at every lorry station across Ghana.
Toyota Voxy. How many lives does the country lose a day through Toyota Voxy accidents?
An entire family was wiped out in late 2025 on the Kumasi-Accra road when a family of five made a trip from Seweah in Kumasi to Accra to visit their beloved mother. Five siblings perished due to carelessness in the Toyota Voxy
It was that very moment that Ghana should have banned the use of the vehicle for long journeys.
The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) has announced that the vehicle will soon be banned from commercial purposes because it is meant for family use alone.
NRSA is also planning to ban the importation of the Toyota Voxy into Ghana for any use.
However, stiffer opposition from driver unions is threatening to derail the plans.
Speaking on Citi News on Thursday night, the Director-General of the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA), Abraham Amaliba, reiterated their plans to stop the importation of the Toyota Voxy vehicles for commercial purposes and also ban their importation entirely.
“The people who are against it are those who are doing the wrong things. Those whose families have died as a result of the carnage on the roads will not be supporting them. We are not to please them,” Mr Amaliba said.
He continued, “The mandate is to ensure safety on our roads, reduce crashes, and ensure that we put in programmes that will also reduce crashes.
“So we are not bothered about anybody who thinks that regulations should not be implemented. We are a lawless country. We are so lawless that even if regulations are coming, we seem to be kicking against them”. Mr Amaliba was unhappy with how Ghanaians are indisciplined.
“I have been sent here to do what is right, and I am going to do it as it is. I am not going to listen to people who are wrongdoers,” he added.
The number of souls lost through road accidents involving Toyota Voxy vehicles every day, every week, and every month is alarming; policies to get it out of the system must be welcomed by Ghanaians.
