When Black Loopers received a timely boost for the 2026 ITTF World Table Tennis Championships in London, many were excited because they needed it.
An undisclosed amount of money for each player bound for the World Championship, packs of bottled water and soft drinks were donated by the leadership of the Security Services Table Tennis Association (SESTTA), which is expected to help in the team’s preparations. One could feel that the team was excited to have received the gifts and promised to deliver for Ghana.
Suddenly, when the time was due for the team to travel to London for the 2026 ITTF World Championship, the team was denied visas, much to the surprise of Ghanaians and the Table Tennis world.
According to an unnamed senior officer of the team, they do not understand why they were denied the visas to travel to London for the opening game.
Ghana is in Group 14 alongside Austria, Puerto Rico and Angola, where the winner of the group alone will progress to the knockout stage. Due to Ghana’s absence on Tuesday, 28th April, Puerto Rico was awarded 3 points, putting the Black Loopers in a very tight corner to progress.
Ghana’s Black Loopers have been granted the opportunity to showcase their talent after visas were approved on Thursday. Ghana will face Angola, which lost to Austria in its first game on Thursday.
Group 14 is now in the control of Austria, which has won its first two games.
