The Ghana Police Service has announced major breakthroughs in a series of high-profile criminal investigations and intelligence-led operations across the country, including arrests linked to the murder of an Indian businessman, a deadly highway robbery attack in the North East corridor, and a large anti-narcotics swoop at Madina Market in Accra.

Addressing a press briefing at the Emergency Command Centre at the National Police Headquarters in Accra, police officials disclosed that additional suspects had been arrested in connection with the murder of Indian national, Sain Devendra Kumar, whose body was discovered on April 26, 2026 with multiple stab wounds inside the boot of his abandoned vehicle at Sabin Akrofuom in the Ashanti Region.

Police said sustained intelligence operations carried out in Kumasi between April 29 and 30 led to the arrest of Osman Moro alias Thiago, Akum Kojo Junior, Moro Sule alias Moro Aboboyaa, and John Adoko alias Carter, bringing the total number of suspects in custody in the case to four.

Investigators revealed that suspect Akum Kojo Junior confessed to participating in the murder and admitted that he tampered with the CCTV system at the deceased’s workplace on April 24 with the assistance of Moro Sule.

The suspect reportedly led police to Daban New Site in Kumasi where the concealed CCTV server was retrieved.

Further investigations led to the recovery of the deceased’s iPhone 17 Pro Max and Tecno mobile phone.

Police said the iPhone had been hidden in a hole dug in a bush at Kaase and was retrieved after suspect Osman Moro led officers to the location. The Tecno phone was recovered from suspect Moro Sule at Aprabong near Dompoase.

Police also disclosed that suspect John Adoko admitted driving the deceased’s vehicle to the place where it was abandoned after the murder. Meanwhile, efforts are ongoing to arrest two additional suspects identified as Zuzu Adrama, also known as “Killer,” and Vipul Jetpur Vijay, alias “Taruu,” who have been linked to the crime.

In another development, the Ghana Police Service announced the arrest of Jamal Bature Mumuni, aged 38, in connection with the deadly armed robbery attack on a VIP passenger bus near Nasia Bridge along the Bolgatanga-Tamale highway on May 2, 2026.

The attack, which shocked many travellers and residents in the Upper East and North East Regions, resulted in the death of two passengers after gunmen reportedly opened fire on the bus during the robbery operation.

Police said investigations have linked the suspect and his gang to several violent attacks in the northern corridor.

The suspect is currently in custody assisting investigations while security agencies intensify efforts to arrest the remaining gang members still on the run.

The Police Service also used the occasion to caution individuals engaging in unlawful conduct under the guise of content creation on social media. Authorities expressed concern over rising incidents involving threats against security personnel, misinformation, fear-mongering and acts bordering on criminality.

Police warned that online monitoring and patrols have been intensified and persons found engaging in such activities would be arrested and prosecuted.

Meanwhile, the Inspector-General of Police’s Special Operations Team carried out a major anti-narcotics operation at the Madina Market enclave in Accra on May 7, 2026, leading to the arrest of fifty suspects made up of forty-six males and four females.

Preliminary investigations established that the suspects included twenty-five Ghanaians, thirteen Nigerians, nine Nigeriens, one Malian, one Togolese and one Burkinabe national.

Police identified Abigail Oko, aged 26, and Mohammed Zaya, a Nigerien national, as alleged kingpins within the narcotics network. Two Nigerien nationals, Yusif Abubakar and Amadu Alfani, were also identified as shop owners allegedly involved in the sale and distribution of narcotic substances.

During the operation, police retrieved 230 boxes of Tramadol valued at GH¢130,000, 49 boxes of wrappers valued at GH¢26,000, ten parcels of suspected Indian hemp worth GH¢15,000, thirteen boxes of crushers, mobile phones, scissors, knives and other materials believed to be connected to narcotics activities.

Police estimated the street value of the seized exhibits at approximately GH¢200,000.

All fifty suspects and the recovered exhibits have since been transferred to the National Operations Directorate Headquarters for further investigations and possible prosecution.
