The Ashanti North Regional Police Command has interdicted Inspector Desmond Owusu Afriyie following allegations that he sexually abused his 14-year-old daughter.
In a statement issued on Saturday, May 9, 2026, the Police Command confirmed that the officer, who is stationed at the Mamponteng District Police Command in the Ashanti Region, is currently under investigation by the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) at Agona District.
According to the police statement, the complaint was formally lodged on November 4, 2025, by one Charlotte Samaa from Koforidua in the Eastern Region on behalf of her 14-year-old daughter, who is alleged to be the victim in the case.
Police said the complainant accused the victim’s biological father, Inspector Owusu Afriyie, of sexually abusing the minor.
As part of the investigation process, the victim was reportedly referred to a government health facility for medical examination and assessment to support ongoing investigations into the allegations.
The statement further disclosed that Inspector Owusu Afriyie later reported himself to the Agona DOVVSU office on February 20, 2026, where he was arrested and cautioned by investigators.
According to police, the officer denied the allegations in his caution statement. He was subsequently granted enquiry bail pending the completion of investigations.
The Ashanti North Regional Police Command explained that the interdiction of the officer is intended to pave the way for thorough and impartial investigations into the matter.
“The Ashanti North Regional Police Command wishes to assure the public of its commitment to thorough investigations into the matter and will communicate further developments,” portions of the statement noted.
The case has since generated public attention, particularly given the sensitive nature of the allegations and the fact that the suspect is a serving police officer.
