French authorities arrested more than 400 people nationwide, with over 280 detentions in the capital, following Paris Saint-Germain’s Champions League victory over Arsenal.
What began as a celebratory gathering of approximately 20,000 fans on the Champs-Élysées quickly devolved into widespread rioting, forcing a heavy police response.
Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez deployed around 22,000 police officers across the country—including 8,000 in Paris—to manage the unrest.
During the clashes, several hundred individuals set fires to vehicles, vandalised bus stops, and attempted to loot storefronts, while some groups allegedly tried to storm an area police station.
Authorities reported that at least seven police officers sustained injuries amid the skirmishes.
As law enforcement utilised tear gas and crowd-control tactics to restore order, prominent political figures like Marine Le Pen publicly criticised the recurring outbreaks of violence.
Despite the chaotic overnight riots, the team’s victory parade proceeded through the capital as planned, culminating in an official reception hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron.
