Former National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, is reportedly preparing for a return to frontline party leadership, with his supporters arguing that his vast organisational experience will be crucial in strengthening the party ahead of the 2028 general elections and beyond.

The anticipated comeback, according to party faithful backing the former National Chairman, is intended to consolidate the NDC’s electoral gains, address organisational weaknesses and position the party for long-term political dominance following its return to government.

Supporters describe Ofosu-Ampofo as one of the party’s most experienced political organisers, having risen through virtually every major level of the NDC’s organisational structure during his decades of public service and party administration.

His political journey began at the grassroots level, where he served as a branch executive before rising through the ranks to become District Chief Executive (DCE), Member of Parliament, National Organiser, National Vice Chairman and eventually National Chairman of the governing party.

Those advocating for his return believe his extensive institutional knowledge places him in a unique position to help reorganise the party’s structures as it prepares for future electoral contests.

According to the supporters, Ofosu-Ampofo has spent the past four years away from the party’s top leadership carefully studying developments within the NDC and identifying areas that require strategic reforms.

They argue that his period outside frontline leadership has enabled him to objectively assess both the strengths and weaknesses of the party and develop practical strategies for improving internal organisation.

Supporters claim the former National Chairman has identified several operational gaps that need to be addressed before the NDC enters the next election cycle.

They believe strengthening internal party structures, improving grassroots mobilisation, enhancing party unity and modernising campaign strategies will be critical to retaining political power after the 2028 elections.

According to them, Ofosu-Ampofo’s ambition extends beyond simply helping the NDC secure another presidential victory.

Rather, they say his vision is to establish a stronger and more resilient party capable of maintaining political power over an extended period regardless of who eventually leads the party into future presidential elections.

Supporters maintain that his proposed return is aimed at building an enduring organisational structure that will allow the NDC to remain electorally competitive for many years.

They argue that the former chairman’s wealth of experience in managing both the party’s internal administration and national election campaigns would be invaluable as the NDC prepares for another crucial political transition.

Ofosu-Ampofo served as National Chairman during one of the party’s most challenging periods, overseeing organisational activities before the 2020 general elections and remaining an influential figure within the NDC despite leaving office.

Prior to becoming National Chairman, he held several key leadership positions within both government and the party, earning a reputation as one of the NDC’s seasoned political strategists and organisers.

Although Ofosu-Ampofo has not publicly announced any intention to contest for a specific national executive position, the growing calls from sections of his supporters signal renewed interest in seeing him play a leading role in shaping the party’s future direction.
