Corinthians announced Clarence Seedorf, 50, as their new head coach on Sunday, October 11. The Dutchman replaces Fernando Diniz, who left after seven straight defeats in the Brasileirão, and signs a contract running to the end of 2027.
He has not coached a team since 2019, and before taking the job he sat on the supervisory board of the Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB).
His last posts were with Cameroon’s national team and, earlier, AC Milan, where he is a club legend.
The task in front of him is urgent. Seedorf arrives to pull the club away from the relegation zone as the Brazilian championship enters its final stretch.
The club president, Osmar Stabile, said the choice reflected the working profile Corinthians wants and that he is confident Seedorf and his staff can help the club through a delicate moment.
Clarence Seedorf called the job “an honour and a big responsibility”, promising to build a team that fights for every ball, every minute and every win.
The appointment is also a gamble. It is Seedorf’s first coaching job in Brazilian football, although he played in the country for Botafogo in 2012 and 2013. His record as a coach is modest, with 20 wins in 63 matches and a 40.7% points return.
He is expected to make his debut against Vitória on October 19. He is due to arrive in Brazil in the coming days with his coaching staff.
