The Western Central Regional Police Command has arrested a 22-year-old man in connection with the alleged murder of 46-year-old Juliana Boata at Nana Ango Hill, a community in Tarkwa.
The suspect, who is reported to be the deceased’s son, is said to have been unhappy with his father. He allegedly complained that he had not received the same care and support as his other siblings.
Preliminary investigations suggest the dispute within the family turned violent. The police say the suspect allegedly attacked Madam Boata with a wooden plank and then strangled her.
The incident has shocked residents of Nana Ango Hill, where Madam Boata lived.
The body has been deposited at the Tarkwa Government Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy to establish the exact cause of death.
The suspect is in police custody, assisting with investigations.
The police have urged families to resolve disputes peacefully and to seek help from elders, religious leaders or the appropriate state agencies before conflicts escalate.
