Veteran record producer and music executive Michael Collins Ajereh, widely known as Don Jazzy, says he wasted his first significant earnings from music instead of putting the money to better use.
The Nigerian music executive made the disclosure during a recent episode of the On The Grind podcast, explaining that he later changed his approach and began investing in new artists.
Don Jazzy said his investments in record labels and other businesses had placed him in a position where he no longer needed to work.
“The first big money I got from music, I lavished it. I bought 50 bottles of champagne and went clubbing,” he said.
“But I quickly got my act together and invested in signing new artistes. Now I don’t have to work ever again.”
He encouraged young people to start investing as soon as they begin earning money, rather than spending heavily on unnecessary luxuries.
“You don’t necessarily have to invest in a record label, but the money you are making in your youth, invest it in a lucrative business as opposed to wasting it on frivolities,” he added.
