President of the Ghana Bar Association (GBA), Efua Ghartey, has warned newly enrolled lawyers not to film their first appearances in court or hire videographers to record them entering the courtroom.
Ms Ghartey said the practice was not permitted and cautioned that lawyers who ignored the instruction could be summoned for disciplinary proceedings.
In a video shared on TikTok and sighted by GhanaWeb on November 5, 2026, she raised concerns about the growing number of newly enrolled lawyers recording their first steps into court and posting the footage on social media.
She specifically urged lawyers not to employ videographers to accompany them into court, stressing that the courtroom was not an appropriate setting for such recordings.
“We’ve seen some people take videos of their fresh legal steps into court. Please, it’s not allowed, it’s not allowed. So please don’t find a videographer to follow you as you enter the courtroom,” she said.
Ms Ghartey acknowledged that senior members of the legal profession had been enjoying the excitement generated by the trend, but said some newly enrolled lawyers had taken it too far.
“And you know, as seniors, we are enjoying what is going on, but some people have crossed the line. And we don’t want to start calling you in for disciplinary matters,” she said.
Her comments serve as a reminder to newly enrolled lawyers to maintain professional standards and observe courtroom protocols as they begin their legal careers.
