The 33rd edition of the Olympic Games ended on Sunday night in Paris in a grand style with an unforgettable closing ceremony.

“Egypt will bid to host one of the 2036 or 2040 Summer Olympics, with the country’s improving infrastructure and sports facilities key for a successful African bid”, said the head of the African national Olympic committees association (ANOCA), Mustapha Berrafi, on Sunday during the closing ceremony.

No African Country has ever hosted the global sporting festival with Europe dominating after hosting it on 17 occasions. The Americas have on 8 times hosted the showpiece with Asia (4) and Oceania (3).

Egypt’s bid for the 2008 Olympic Games was unsuccessful after Beijing hosted it.

Los Angeles is set to host the 2028 edition while the 2032’s edition will be hosted by Brisbane in Australia.

The 2036 and 2040’s Olympic Games are open for bids. The international Olympic Committee president, Thomas Bach said, “Interest for 2036 Olympic Games has reached double digits”. It is believed that Qatar, Saudia Arabia, Indonesia, India and Turkey have all expressed interest by bidding.

The new Administrative Capital for Egypt is still under construction after the project commenced in 2015 in East of Cairo. The capital is expected to have a 93,900-capacity National Stadium.

Berrafi also confirmed that Cape Town are set to register their interest but doesn’t know which of the two they are ready to bid for.
