A GoFundMe account has been created in the name of a Ghanaian photographer, Ishmael Amuzu-Quaidoo, who had been residing in Chicago since 2020 but was found dead in the Chicago River on August 3, 2024.

While there is little reported news about this incident, a number of TikTok and Facebook accounts have shared videos about the death of the Ghanaian photographer.

According to details captured on GoFundMe and sighted by GhanaWeb, Amuzu-Quaidoo went missing on Wednesday, July 31, 2024.

He was found unresponsive in the Chicago River four days later and was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident.

“On July 31, Ishmael Amuzu Quaidoo, affectionately known as Kobby, was reported missing in the River North/Chicago Loop area. On August 3rd, at 8 a.m., he was tragically found unresponsive in the Chicago River close to Adams Street Bridge. He was pronounced dead at the scene,” part of the details read.

It added that authorities are currently investigating the circumstances leading to the death of Kobby.

“The circumstances surrounding his death still remain unclear, and as such, his family, who are based in Ghana, have been left both crippled with grief and confused as to how this could have happened. Investigations are still ongoing.”

Friends of Kobby described him as a wonderful colleague who was a talented photographer and a beloved member of the creative community in Chicago.

The purpose of the GoFundMe was to raise funds to support the family of the late photographer.

The funds raised would also be used to make arrangements to transport the mortal remains of the late Kobby to Ghana as well as pay for the cost of his funeral.
