The family of a seven-month-old pregnant woman is demanding justice after she was reportedly gang-raped by six armed men in Gambaga in the East Mamprusi District of the Northern Region.

According to a JoyNews report, the victim, whose identity has been concealed, along with her husband, were ambushed by the armed men who took turns assaulting her, leaving her in a worse condition.

Additionally, the pregnant woman’s husband was brutally assaulted, and beaten, with their mobile phones and motorbike stolen by the armed men.

The couple were returning from a check-up at the hospital in Nalerigu when the incident occurred on the Gambaga- Dagbireboare Road.

The grandfather of the victim, who confirmed the incident in an interview with JoyNews, said the incident traumatized his granddaughter, who had to be rushed back to the hospital for treatment on the day of the incident.

He added, however, that his granddaughter initially had difficulty in walking but is currently coping well.

“They were severely brutalised before their mobile phones and motorbike were taken from them. The robbers were 6 in number and well-armed.

“Initially, she had difficulty in walking but she is now doing fairly well. Years of neglect of our road has caused us a lot of calamity and sometimes we asked ourselves if we are also part of Ghana,” he said.

Residents of the community are angry about the police’s inaction, as no arrests have been made following the incident, the report added.

According to them, there have been frequent robbery attacks on that road due to its terrible nature, with no solutions implemented to curtail the problem.
