Ghana was in Group G alongside Germany, Portugal and the USA in the 2014 FIFA World Cup. The Black Stars finished bottom of the group after losing against the USA and Portugal and drawing against Germany.

Germany, the eventual winners of the 2014 FIFA World Cup’s only draw was the 2-2 against Ghana in Matchday 2.

Joaquim Low’s charges went ahead and defeated all their opponents and lifted their 4th World Cup title.

Ghana’s head coach then, James Kwesi Appiah, in an interview with FIFA.com discussed his memories of the 2014 World Cup hosted by Brazil.

“You were Ghana’s coach during the 2014 World Cup. What memories do you have of that experience?” FIFA.com asked Appiah.

“Fabulous memoriess,” Appiah said.

“Playing football in the game’s spiritual home was an unforgettable experience. Ghana wanted a repeat of 2010, when they reached the quarter-finals, and we were physically and mentally ready for the 2014 edition.

“However, it came down to small details and we didn’t go as far as we’d hoped (the Black Stars were eliminated in the group stage). I especially remember our game against eventual champions Germany (a 2-2 draw),” Kwasi Appiah said.

James Kwesi Appiah, now the head coach of Sudan national team disclosed that his biggest memory at the FIFA World Cup was Ghana’s 2-2 draw against Germany.

The game ended goalless draw in the first half. Mario Gotze in the 57th minute opened the scoring for Germany by using his body to connect the ball after Thomas Muller had sent a sweet pass across the face of the goal.

Andre Ayew headed Afful Harrison’s wonderful cross in the 54th minute to beat Manuel Neuer to level the score for Ghana.

In the 63rd minute, Sulley Muntari’s exquisite pass to Gyan was beautifully buried inside the box to put Ghana ahead 2-1.

Miroslav Klose came on from the bench to score for Germany to make the score 2-2 as both teams were satisfied with the results.

FIFA officially recognizes that Group Stage game as one of the most entertaining games ever at the FIFA World Cup.
