The Round 8 of the South American Marathon 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifies continued on Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning.

Colombia welcomed Argentina in the repeat of the 2024 COPA America finals in which Argentina triumphed 1-0.

It was a revenge mission on the minds and lips of every Colombian as they determined at all costs to beat Lionel Scaloni’s World champions.

The level of competitivenes of that match was mind blowing. Colombia took the lead in the 25th minute with James Rodriguez finding Mosquera with a precise cross. Wolverhampton’s defender Mosquera scored from a close range with a beautiful header. Colombia ended the first half leading 1-0. Nicholas Gonzalez’s stunner earlier in the second half levelled the scores. The great James Rodriguez scored from penalty kick in the 65th minute to ensure a 2-1 win for Colombia.

Bolivia won 2-1 in Chile to move to 8th position and four points clear of Chile in 9th place.

Enner Valencia’s second half strike ensured a 1-0 win for Ecuador over Peru. Ecuador sits 4th on the log with 11 points from 8 games. Peru surprisinly is last on the table with just 3 points won from a possible 24.

Paraguay in Asuncion, the capital, defeated Brazil 1-0 with Diego Gomez’s 20th minute strike the difference. Brazil is 5th on the log with just one point ahead of 7th placed Paraguay.

Venezuela shared the spoils with Uruguay. Both teams failed to find the back of the net in an intense 90 minutes of action.
