Ghanaian football giants Asante Kotoko have announced that two of their players, Esmat AbdalHamid Mohamed and Obdoelkarem Yoouef Yagoub, have gone missing in the United States just before their Capital City Africa Cup game against DC United.

Both players, who are Sudanese nationals, left the team’s hotel without seeking permission on Friday, October 11, 2024, and have since not returned.

Asante Kotoko has reported the incident to U.S. authorities, and an active search is ongoing to locate the missing players.

In a statement, the club reassured its supporters that they are working diligently with law enforcement to resolve the situation. The statement read:

“Asante Kotoko SC regrets to inform our supporters and the public that two players, Esmat AbdalHamid Mohamed and Obdoelkarem Yoouef Yagoub, both Sudanese nationals, are currently missing from the camp.

“The players left the team’s hotel without permission on Friday, 11th October 2024, and all efforts to contact or locate them have been unsuccessful. The club has officially notified law enforcement authorities in the United States and is cooperating fully to ensure their safe return.

“We urge our supporters to remain calm as we work with the relevant authorities.”

Asante Kotoko continues to prepare for their scheduled match against DC United despite the ongoing search for the two missing players.
