Herbet Mensah: “Ghana is no longer feared nor reocognised as a force!”

The statistics are clear that African counties are no more afraid of Ghana. Ghana in the 2023 AFCON failed to beat minnows Mozambique and Cape Verde leading to group stage exit.

The Black stars had failed to beat Gabon and Comoros in the 2021 AFCON costing the team a round 16 berth.

These counties are all minnows in the African game so it was extremely difficult for anyone to accept the results.

The 2025 AFCON qualifies has finally exposed the Black Stars after failing to beat Angola, Sudan and Niger. It is very unbelievable looking at the quality of top players at Ghana’s disposal. Ghana is on the verge of missing the AFCON for the first time since 2004.

Ghanaians are extremely worried with former Kumasi Asante Kotoko president, currently the president of World Rugby’s African association, Rugby Africa, the governing body of Rugby in Africa.

“The dimming of the Star, our Star, started a while ago. Mediocrity dressed up as hope … hope for better times which simply were not on the cards! Alas, we were unprepared for success!!

“If one sets the bar low enough anything other than a loss is okay and success and greatness though in their minds, is set for qualification into tournaments which should be automatic!”, Herbet added.

Qualifying for AFCON became automatic after the 2004 edition. Ghana planned and prepared well culminating in 3 consecutive World Cups and two AFCON finals. It has gotten to a level that
