Libya was supposed to face Nigeria in a make or break fixture in week 4 of the 2025 AFCON qualifers. The North Africans needed a win over Nigeria at all costs to stay in the hunt for qualification to Morroco 2025.

Nigeria entered Libya and spent a reported 16hrs at the airport without the Libyans attending to them as expected. Skipper Williams Troost-Ekong led his men back home after expressing his disappointment in the way the North Africans welcomed them.

The game was subsequently postponed with CAF president promising a stiffer punishment to whoever that will be found guilty during the 46th CAF Ordinary General Assembly in Addis Ababa.

On Saturday, the Confederation of African Football awarded three points and three goals to Nigeria. They also fined Libya FA $50,000.

The ruling means Nigeria have qualified for the 2025 AFCON while Libya has no chance of securing a place in Morocco 2025.
