Former Ghanaian forward Charles Taylor has told the bosses of Ghanaian football to address the issues bedevilling the local league.

In an interview on BRYT FM, the ex-Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko star explained the reason why the GPL should be taken seriously.

“Black Stars success depends on the Ghana Premier League. It’s time for us to resort to the GPL for players once the youth national teams are not functioning,” Charles Taylor said.

“We should pick the best players in the league and groom them for the future. The current Black Stars players cannot be relied on. You can’t bet on them for better results.”

The performances of Ghanaian players abroad for their respective clubs and for the national team are poles apart and it is very unbelievable.

The Black Stars’ players performances week-in-week-out for their clubs are nowhere near what they do for the national team. It has become a huge concern hence forcing Charles Taylor to suggest the GFA should pay huge attention to the domestic league so that the best players could be spotted and groomed for the national team because Ghanaian players in Europe are not delivering for the nation.

Ghana will play Niger and Angola in the final games of the 2025 AFCON qualifiers in November’s international break with the Black Stars having a very slim chance of qualifying for the main tournament in Morocco.
