Ivorian winger Amad Diallo looked extremely sharper, faster and more disciplined when Manchester United travelled to Portman Road on Sunday evening against Ipswich Town.
In the much-anticipated debut of former Sporting Lisbon manager Ruben Amorim’s first game as the head coach of Manchester United, all eyes were on the Red Devils, especially on the starting XI.
Amorim had stated during his pre-match conference ahead of his debut in English football that he has no plan B, and it will be his famous 3-4-3 which has helped him achieve humongous success at Sporting Lisbon.
The head coach shocked many by playing Amad Diallo in the right wing-back position, and it immediately paid off. The Ivorian forward provided an assist to Marcus Rashford with just two minutes played to put the Red Devils in front. Even though Manchester United struggled a bit, Diallo was electric anytime he got the ball.
Speaking after the game, the new manager praised Diallo and disclosed that the Ivorian has improved in the last three days.
“He [Amad] was very good. In 3 days, he improved so much defensively. He was facing the left-back, he just had to follow him. He was so focused. He did a very good job,” Ruben Amorim said.
Manchester United’s 1-1 draw at Ipswich Town means that the club has won just 16 points from a possible 36, lying in 12th position after a disastrous start to the new campaign.
Ruben Amorim will expect his side to gather momentum ahead of the Christmas festival with home wins against Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League on Thursday night and Everton next Sunday in the Premier League.
