Who remembers the last time a top Kumawood movie was advertised on the radio and TV? Who remembers the last time the Kumawood actors and actresses all came together and released a blockbuster? Well, no one can recall.

Ghanaians and avid fans of the industry believe it is completely dead because they are not enjoying new movies on their screens but rather the repeat of the old ones.

Kwadwo Nkansah recently released a movie titled “A Country Called Ghana”, where the dominant actors were from Nollywood.

Agya Koo and Nana Ama McBrown, who are credited always with the revival of the Kumawood, have been spotted joining the skit train where DR Likee is the undisputed king. Many famous Kumawood stars are now into skits.

The new stars, Kyekyeku, 39/40, Opoku Billson, Awurama, C-Confion and many more, are all interested in skits than movies.

Talented actress Vivian Jill Lawrence, who plays the role of “Aberewa Mafia” in many skits has poured cold water on the news that Kumawood is dead.

“It’s not that there’s an issue with Kumawood or the industry. Everyone is just busy”, Vivian said.

“Right now, everyone is busy. Even I am about to start a new project,” she said. “If you call anyone, they are all occupied. I recently worked on a project and tried to reach Nana Ama McBrown, but she was tied up with something else. I called Mathilda, and she was also on set. Last week, I needed another actress, but she couldn’t make it because she was also on set,” Vivian Jill explained how difficult it is to gather the Grade A stars for projects.

“It’s just a matter of getting everyone at once. But we’ll definitely be doing something big to show that Kumawood is still here and thriving,” the 41-year-old concluded.

The beautiful and talented actress and philanthropist assured Kumawood fans of getting their wish as she stated emphatically that the industry is not dead, but they find it difficult to come together due to time constraints.
