AC Milan has sacked Paolo Fonseca as the manager of the club after the 1-1 draw against AS Roma on Sunday night. The Portuguese manager was informed soon after the game that his services were no longer needed at the seven-times European champions.
The club did not inform Fonseca of his sacking before attending the post-match conference. It was after the press conference that Zlatan Ibrahimovic, one of the leaders of AC Milan informed him.
“I never in my life felt fear of anything in football and I continue like that. The important thing is to have a clear conscience, that I am honest with those who work with me. My conscience is clear, I fear nothing,” Fonseca said during the press conference when the press asked him about a possible sacking.
Paolo Fonseca, 51, was appointed the manager of Milan in the 2024 summer after Stefano Pioli parted ways with the club. His time has not been as successful as expected. Results have been not so bad as the club has lost only two, won 9 and drawn 4 of their last 15 matches in all competitions.
The club sits 8th on the Serie A log after winning 27 points from 17 games. AC Milan are 14 points behind league leaders Atalanta having played a game less.
In the UCL, AC Milan is 12th on the table and are four places below the top 8 even though they stand a greater chance of progressing to the knockout stage.
Sky Sport Italia reports that former FC Porto coach Conceicao will be in the city of Milan on Monday morning to sign the contract, which is worth €1m in wages to June 2025. There is also an option for the club to extend it to June 2026.
He will make his debut on the bench in Riyadh for the Supercoppa Italiana semi-final against Juventus on Friday, January 3. Conceicao, the 50, year-old former FC Porto manager agreed to the deal before Milan faced Roma on Sunday night at the San Siro.
