Lawrene Avorsey, a 31-year-old banker, has taken Ghc164,000 from Access Bank Ghana Ltd.

Avorsey organised the theft by controlling the reversal of transactions.

The young man is said to have opened two accounts named Rifa Kaledzi and Richard Mawuli Torsu.

He is reported to have transferred amounts of Ghc75,631.55 and Ghc72,184.14 into the accounts of Kaledzi and Torsu, respectively.

Avorsey transferred Ghc16,636.45 to another account belonging to Abigail Adjie Dzanie.

Access Bank declined the discrepancies found in its General Ledger (GL) reconciliations that were submitted by Avorsey in December 2024.

The bank reportedly initiated an internal investigation while Avorsey was on medical leave, and he later submitted his resignation, which was not approved.

He ceased coming to work, and the bank found the missing funds on December 18, 2024.

Avorsey has been taken into custody and is now facing court proceedings. Kaledzi, Dzamie, and Torsu are currently not in custody.
