In a bid to ensure a smooth and safe hosting of the Black Stars’ upcoming Matchday five fixture against Chad, the Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddie Adams, and the Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, conducted an emergency inspection of the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday.

The visit uncovered a plethora of issues, including non-functional and deteriorating floodlights, prompting urgent repairs within a 48-hour deadline.

The Accra Sports Stadium, which has undergone extensive renovations and maintenance in recent months, is set to host the crucial match on Friday, March 21.

The stadium’s resurgence as Ghana’s preferred venue follows a period of improvement, including pitch restoration and upgrades to internal amenities.

However, the latest inspection revealed that more work needs to be done to meet the standards set by CAF and FIFA.

The Black Stars, who are currently preparing for their upcoming matches, are expected to arrive in Accra on Monday, March 17.

The team will undergo a mandatory training session from Monday through Thursday before facing Chad.

Deputy Chief of Staff, Stan Dogbe, who was part of the inspection team, received a comprehensive report on the stadium’s poor condition, highlighting the need for swift action.

In response to the inspection findings, the Sports Minister has directed the NSA to ensure all emergency repairs are completed within the stipulated timeframe.

The NSA has collaborated with Green Grass Technology to improve the pitch condition, and similar urgency is required to address the floodlight issue and other safety concerns.

The Black Stars’ match against Chad is crucial, as they seek to maintain their momentum in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

Ghana is part of Group I, which also includes Madagascar and Chad.

With the team’s sights set on qualifying for the World Cup, the Accra Sports Stadium must be in top condition to host the match.

Following the match against Chad, the Black Stars will travel to Morocco for their Matchday six encounter against Madagascar, scheduled for Monday, March 24, at the Stade Mimoun Al Arsi.
