Suzzy Adwoa Pinamang, a 16-year-old second-year student of Adventist Senior High School in Bantama, Kumasi, has arrived in the United Kingdom to undergo emergency eye surgery after sustaining life-threatening injuries in a tragic classroom incident.

Suzzy was accidentally shot in the eye by a classmate during school hours in April 2025, prompting a nationwide outpouring of sympathy and calls for justice and urgent medical intervention.

The incident occurred when a fellow student reportedly brought a weapon to school, which discharged and struck Suzzy in the face.

She was immediately rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi, where initial assessments confirmed severe ocular trauma.

Further consultations at the Agarwal Eye Hospital in Accra underscored the gravity of her condition, with doctors strongly recommending advanced specialist care outside the country.

Following these medical assessments, a swift humanitarian response was led by businessman and philanthropist Ibrahim Mahama, who committed to fully funding Suzzy’s travel, surgery, and recovery expenses.

On Saturday, May 10, 2025, Suzzy arrived in the UK accompanied by her brother, who is serving as her caregiver, and Rafik Mahama, special aide to Ibrahim Mahama.

Their arrival was made possible not only through Mahama’s financial support but also through diplomatic facilitation by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.

In a statement issued on Thursday, May 8, Ablakwa announced that the Ghana High Commission in the UK had been directed to provide Suzzy with special consular support and privileges during her medical stay.

This includes assistance with her accommodation, follow-ups, and emotional support mechanisms to help her and her caregiver navigate the challenges of treatment abroad.

Suzzy’s surgery is expected to take place in the coming days at a specialist eye facility in the UK.

Medical experts remain hopeful that the intervention will preserve at least partial vision and stabilize her condition.
