The Black Stars of Ghana will play against the Blue Sharks of Cape Verde on Sunday in Abidjan. Chris Houghton will make his debut as a manager in the AFCON as his team will target a win to gather momentum for the competition.

Ghana endured a horrible AFCON in 2021 in Cameroon as they finished bottom of a group consisting of Morocco, Gabon and Comoros so the Black Stars cannot afford to disappoint again.

Heading into the tournament, Ghana has been horrible as results haven’t been as great as expected.

The four-time winners played a disappointing goalless draw against Namibia in the friendly game in Kumasi on Monday and fans were extremely disappointed. A win against Cape Verde can boost their confidence in the team.

Chris Houghton in his pre-match conference revealed that all 27 players are fully fit except Mohammed  Kudus who will be assessed before the game.

Cape Verde will be making its fourth appearance at the AFCON. Pedro Leita Brito’s Blue Sharks have not been in good form heading into the 2023 AFCON as they have beaten only Eswatini in their last six games.

Expect fireworks in Abdijan on Sunday night between Ghana and Cape Verde.
