Ghana is now in a very tight corner after the goalless draw at the Accra Sports Stadium with Sudan on the 2025 AFCON qualifiers. The Black Stars entered the game with just one point won from a possible six. Nothing apart from win was ever going to help Otto Addo and his boys’ chances of qualifying to the next CAN.

Sudan under the tutelage of former Ghana head coach, Kwesi Appiah, have punched above their weight since the beginning of 2024. The Falcons of Jediane had won 3 points from the two games in the qualifiers and needed to avoid defeat in Accra to be in a position to secure one of the slots to Morocco.

Sudan looked fearless and determined throughout the entire game. The back four of Agab, Kuku, Karshom and Ahmed Yousig were so solid as they limited the threat Ghana’s forwards posed.

In the first half, the Black Stars attempted 5 shots with 2 on goal compared to Sudan’s 3 gaol attempts with 2 on target. Nothing huge seperated the two sides as both teams looked almost the same in terms of performance before the end of the first half.

Otto Addo’s men needed to recharge their batteries for the second half. The Black Stars was far better in the second half as they tripled their efforts to find the win.

With 67% possesion, 13 goal attempts and 5 shots on goal, Ghana looked great but the familiar old problems of scoring occured once again.

Kudus in the 88th minute came so close to scoring after failing to put the ball into the net from only a yard out from Alidu Seidu’s cross.

Kwesi appiah will be the happier of the two coaches after his plans and approach for the game yielded a great point for Sudan.

On Monday in Libya, a win for Sudan can end Ghana’s dream for the 2025 AFCON depending on what will transpire between Angola and Niger in both games.

It has so far been a veey poor campaign for Otto Addo and his men in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers campaign and a defeat on Monday will add more salt to Black Stars injury. It is 3 games and no win has been recorded.
