Apart from the host Morocco, Burkina Faso became the first nation to qualify for the 2025 AFCON after an important 2-0 win over Burundi.
The Stallions have qualified for the 14th time in their history to the AFCON with the 2013 1-0 defeat against Stephen Keshi’s Nigeria in the finals their best ever results.
Group L of the qualifers contains Senegal but Burkina Faso under Brahima Traore has exceeded expectations by booking a place in Morocco 2025 with two games to spare.
Al Riyadh’s Mohammed Traore in the 5th minute converted a penalty kick to give Burkina Faso the lead. Skipper Bertrand Traore finished off Burundi in the 94th minute to ensure an incredible qualifiers for the West Africans.
Senegal is second in the group with 7 points. They will face Malawi in MD4 and a win for the Lions of Teranga will eliminate Burundi and Malawi.
Mathematically, it’s impossible for Burkina Faso to finish below Burundi. They have a superior head-to-head record over the Eastern Africans. Malawi has 0 points so far and must beat Senegal to remain in contention.
