Flashback to 2002 when Brazil under Luis Felipe Scolari had Ronaldo Lima, Rivaldo, Ronaldinho, Cafu and Roberto Carlos en route to the triumph in the Korea-Japan FIFA World Cup.
The team was filled with global superstars who opponents were afraid of. It will be 24 years after the next World Cup is played in the USA-Mexico-Canada since Brazil won their last World Cup.
Brazil has short global superstars who have struck fear in everyone in the last decade. Neymar Jnr has been the man who has carried Brazil since 2011. A country known for producing the finest footballers on the globe has not been able to produce many in recent years.
The former skipper who led the country in 2002 at the World Cup has bemoaned the lack of quality and top-notch players in the national team.
Speaking to ESPN, the former right-back said, “For almost 14 years we have been relying on just one player, Neymar Jr. He is our best player, our biggest star, the player who we know can solve our problem at any moment”.
“Tell me, who is the national star today, after Neymar, who enjoys absolute and global fame? After Neymar, we have not had any new star,” concluded Cafu.
Brazil’s current squad has so many talented players but is not at the level Brazilians want. Real Madrid duo Vinicius Jnr and Rodrygo are two top players Brazil boast of but have always failed to deliver whenever they are in the famous yellow shirt.
PSG’s skipper Marquinhos, Manchester City’s Ederson and Allison of Liverpool are the other global superstars for Brazil in world football now.
Youngsters like Estevao, Endryk, Murillo and Igor Jesus among many others are the ones Brazil expect to take over soon.
