The ruling by a High Court in Kumasi on the contentious Akosua Serwaa–Odo Broni marital dispute has triggered a wave of politically charged accusations against former Second Lady Hajia Samira Bawumia—allegations her aides and supporters insist are entirely fabricated and aimed at damaging her political influence.

The latest controversy follows a legal battle involving Akosua Serwaa, who sought the court’s confirmation that she was the legally married wife of the late music icon, Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba. After weeks of hearing, the court delivered its decision on the matter on Friday.

Within hours, social media—particularly TikTok—became the centre of a storm of claims linking Samira Bawumia to the outcome.

According to sources monitoring the online discourse, individuals believed to be aligned with “Team Legal Wife,” a faction backing Akosua Serwaa, launched coordinated live streams attacking the former Second Lady. In these broadcasts, commentators accused Samira Bawumia of wielding political influence to tilt the court’s ruling.

Some went as far as alleging that she, together with NPP figure Afia Akoto, clandestinely met the presiding judge at a hotel and offered financial inducements to secure a judgement favouring Odo Broni.

These claims have since migrated to other platforms such as Facebook and X, fuelling a narrative that Samira interfered in the private legal dispute.

However, individuals close to the former Second Lady describe the allegations as baseless, malicious, and strategically timed.

They argue that Samira Bawumia has no personal or direct links to either Akosua Serwaa or Odo Broni, and no association with Afia Akoto beyond being members of the same political party.

They further stress that Samira has been solely focused on her nationwide political engagements ahead of the NPP’s presidential primaries scheduled for January 31, 2026, leaving her with neither the time nor motivation to get involved in such a matter.

Those familiar with her activities insist that the attacks are politically motivated—an attempt to dilute the impact of her vigorous campaign efforts in key constituencies.

They note that her recent political engagements have significantly boosted support for her preferred candidate, generating anxiety within rival factions.

Even some supporters of Akosua Serwaa, who openly admit their disappointment with the court’s ruling, caution against jumping to conclusions or endorsing unfounded conspiracy theories.

They emphasize that dissatisfaction with a judgment does not justify dragging uninvolved public figures into the fray.
