The protracted legal battle surrounding the estate and family affairs of the late highlife legend Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, has taken a troubling turn following allegations of death threats against one of the key lawyers involved in the case.

William Kusi, legal counsel for Akosua Serwaa, who is widely described as the legally married wife of the late musician, has disclosed that he and his family have become targets of threats amid the ongoing court disputes between the two women associated with Daddy Lumba’s estate.

Speaking in an interview with Kumasi-based Orange FM, in a video that has since gone viral, Kusi revealed that the threats began shortly after he took up the case on behalf of Akosua Serwaa.

According to him, the messages have come from unknown individuals and have escalated from intimidation to direct threats against his wife.

“They told me, ‘If you don’t stop the case, we will release your nude pictures,’” Kusi alleged during the interview. “They have threatened to kill my wife if I don’t stop the appeal and all that.”

Kusi suggested that the nature of the threats reinforces his belief that the legal issues at stake are significant.

“I told them it means they themselves know that the judgment was bad,” he added, referring to the controversial court rulings that have marked the Daddy Lumba family disputes.

When asked whether the threats had shaken his resolve to continue representing Akosua Serwaa, the lawyer admitted that while he remains committed to his professional duty, concerns about his family’s safety weigh heavily on him.

“Am I bothered? I am thinking about the safety of my wife,” he said. Pressed further on whether he could withdraw from the case under such pressure, Kusi responded candidly: “Why not? Everything is possible.”

The allegations come against the backdrop of months of intense legal wrangling following Daddy Lumba’s death on 26 July 2025, disputes that first erupted over funeral arrangements and later expanded into questions of marriage legitimacy, estate administration, and inheritance rights.

On 13 December 2025, an Accra High Court granted an injunction filed by the musician’s maternal family, temporarily halting funeral plans that had been scheduled for 17 December 2025.

However, the same court subsequently ordered the family to deposit GH¢2 million to cover funeral-related expenses already incurred.

The failure of the family to raise the required amount led to the lifting of the injunction, clearing the way for the funeral to proceed.

The ruling attracted widespread public debate and criticism, particularly from lawyers aligned with Akosua Serwaa.

Reacting to the decision at the time, William Kusi openly described the ruling as “illegal” and “an absurdity,” arguing that it undermined due process and raised serious concerns about the administration of justice.

Beyond the personal threats he says he has endured, Kusi warned that the manner in which the case is unfolding could have broader implications for the international image.

He questioned how the judiciary would be perceived if such controversies attracted global attention.

“If the international community hears these things, what are they going to say about us and our judiciary?” he asked, stressing that cases involving high-profile figures like Daddy Lumba naturally draw global scrutiny.
